An Orothopedics Podiatrist is a Doctor of Podiatric
Medicine also referred to as a DPM, a podiatrist is a
specialist in the foot and ankle.
As specialists in the foot and ankle, orthopedic podiatrists
are crucial in helping preserve and repair the critical
functionality of the foot and ankle through both preventative
medicine and surgical intervention. Diabetic foot, sports
injuries in the foot, combat related foot and ankle trauma, and
other traumatic damage injuries that involve the foot and ankle
require the biomechanical expertise of a DPM.
Podiatric Surgeons are licensed under The Board of Podiatric
Medicine. Your podiatrist should show that they carry the BPM
credential and have attended a graduate medical program that
was approved by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education or
CPME.
The CPME is the council charged with accrediting podiatric
programs in medical schools by the US Federal Department of
Education.
Only a licensed MD, DO, or DPM can treat, diagnose, and
prescribe for medical conditions related to the foot and ankle.
Only a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine has the credentials and
training to best treat issues related to the foot and ankle.
